Homemade Laundry Detergent

This post falls right in line with my last post.  A few days ago I blogged about laundry and having a servant's heart.  You can read that post here if you missed it.  Today I'm sharing with you two things, my homemade laundry detergent and also the suds glass canister I made with my new Silhouette Cameo.

I've been wanting to make homemade laundry soap for a while now but I've put if off because I wanted to use up the several bottles of soap I had stocked up.  I had been pinning soap recipes and when I was down to my last bottle of detergent I went to the store and picked up the ingredients.   I followed a recipe I found on Pinterest.  There were several to choose from but this is the one I decided to try.  Click here for the recipe.

I never would have thought laundry soap was so easy to make.  Basically you just throw everything together in a big container.  The bars of soap were the only thing I needed to grate.  Everything else can just be poured straight out of the box.  That yellow stuff is the grated soap.  It looks like cheese doesn't it?

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut some vinyl letters to pretty up my glass canister.  The prettier the better.  It just makes doing laundry so much more pleasant don't you think?

This stuff smells amazing!  I've already used it and it cleans our clothes great plus it leaves them smelling fresh.  I don't know if I saved a lot of money by making my own detergent.  I'll just have to see how long this batch lasts me.  But even if I didn't save a lot of money I still like the satisfaction I have out of making my own.
Plus I think this would make a lovely gift.  The season of gift giving is approaching...

  1. I make up a batch every so often, just to change up from my regular detergent. I read that it's good to do that. Anyway, your recipe is very similar to mine, with the exception of the regular baking soda. The scent crystals were my latest addition when I made a batch 2 weeks ago. I used Purex and the laundry room smells fantastic, even without my doing a load. Visiting from Kathy's linky party. ~ Sue
