Treasure Hunting

It was on our way to my kids' piano lessons this morning that I saw a big "estate sale" sign posted at an intersection. It had a big black arrow pointing the way.  As I waited for the light to turn green I was thinking:  hmmm...I haven't been treasure hunting in a long time, maybe I should go. I love going to estate sales.  But surprisingly for one reason or another I've only gone to a few this year.  So as soon as I dropped the kids off, I went in search of this estate sale following the signs and arrows all the way there.

It was a good one.  Everything was nicely organized, everything was priced and arranged in a pleasant manner.  I love vintage things so I'm always walking around ooh-ing and ahh-ing over everything.  They had such pretty vintage furniture.  There was this one really neat sofa that I know had to be at least forty years old but it still looked brand new and the cushions were still firm and springy like it had never been sat on.  Why is it older people's things don't wear out much?  Is it because they took better care of their things or is it because everything was just made better back in the good old days?  Maybe it's a combination of the two.

This is what I brought home
I was so excited to find this.  It's by far my favorite treasure I brought home.  At first I thought the 15 dollar price was kind of steep but after a closer look I realized this was a pretty good deal.
The box is full of wedding ring quilt pieces.  Don't you just love all those vintage fabrics?  They make me smile just looking at them.
If you look closely you can see that someone lovingly and patiently hand sewed these together.
There was a whole room full of vintage sewing items. These are only a few things I carefully selected because I didn't take enough money to buy everything I wanted.  A few rolls of vintage lace, some old pinking shears that are still sharp and cut,  some cute little orange scissors that I'll probably throw in my crochet bag, and some vintage buttons on the original card.
 Aren't they adorable?
This might seem a little silly but I loved this shower cap.  I've been wanting one and for a dollar how could I resist the ruffled edge and the pink flowers.  Oh the vintage charm...
I bought this because it reminded me of one that my mother used to have.  It's a Tupperware pickle container.  My mom always kept it full of pickled jalapenos and that's exactly what I'll be using it for.  I've found a few other Tupperware pieces this summer.  You've gotta love Tupperware.  It lasts forever.

Well I had a lot of fun shopping today.  Hope you've had a great day too!  Til next time...

  2. Oh my gosh, what lucky and beautiful finds. I think that fabric might be real feedsack cloth from the 1930's. I'm happy just to get cheap reproductions of that stuff!
