Rescued Linens

Hello there my dear sweet blogging friends.
I hope each and every one of you is happy and well.
I want to share with you today a few treasures I picked up earlier this week.

I'm always a little saddened to see how many handmade items I run into at thrift stores.
Whether it's crocheted afghans, knitted hats, or just vintage linens in general, the thrift shops are full of handmade items that people have chosen to part with.
I often wonder why anyone would get rid of these wonderful things.  I would hold onto them forever.  You know what they say though, one persons trash is another persons treasure.  And I suppose I shouldn't complain because I, and other people like me, benefit from their discards.
Up first is this really nice doily.  When I bought it,it still had the strings hanging on it.  Like someone had just finished crocheting it and tucked it away without weaving in the ends.  I brought it home and sewed in the ends, washed it, and blocked it.  Now it looks great.  It's actually really big.  I bought another one similar to this that I don't have a picture of but it's round and quite a bit larger.  I know it was made by the same person because the thread is the same as this one.

I also found this pretty yellow dish cloth.  This one is knit.  I've already used it.  It's a bit large for washing dishes but it's great for wiping down the counters and other surfaces.
I loved this little farmhouse tea towel.
From the blue stripes down to the crochet edge, it's perfect in every way.
I slipped this into my embroidery basket.
I plan to do some stitching on it someday when I have the time.
It's already on my ever growing list of things I want to do.

And lastly is this pretty green doily.  Same thing for this one.
I sewed in the ends, washed it and blocked it.  That's all it needed.
I love delicate doilies like these I just don't like making them.
I prefer to crochet with yarn instead of thread.  It's easier on my eyes.
The best part about rescuing these vintage linens is the hard work has already been
done for me.  I simply get to enjoy someone elses labor of love.
And that's okay with me.

The weather has been wonderful these last few days.  Temps in the mid seventies til tomorrow.  Pretty warm for December.  It doesn't even feel like Christmas yet but that's alright with me.
I hate cold weather.

  3. I love everything you scored from the thrift shop Beca! Wow I love the doilies and the pretty tea towel with the crochet edging.
The weather is warm here too and has been in the fifties since November. This weekend it's supposed to hit 60 degrees. That is warm for December here. I'm not complaining as I am enjoying it especially when I walk Bosco in the morning.
    Have a wonderful weekend.

  5. I think that these things have found exactly their right place with you! Oddly I hardly ever see handmade things in charity shops, it is usually mass produced and often not very good at all, you must have better shops - or donations! - than us! xx

  6. I know exactly what you mean - I too often see beautiful things and wonder how someone could bear to part with them. You've found some lovely treasures there, and I'm happy that they've found a good home again :-)
    Happy weekend, xx

  8. I hate cold weather, too, and it's definitely gotten colder here. Living in concrete buildings with no insulation and no central heat means that the cold stays inside even if it actually feels warmer outside, so we've had to break out the space heaters to be able to sleep comfortably at night. Love all the doilies you found. They are so pretty and the green one is lovely draped over the clothes hanger. Best wishes, Tammy
