It's the day of roses and chocolates.
Isn't that what everyone thinks of when they think about Valentine's Day?
Teddy bears, cards, hearts and flowers...
all that fun romantic stuff.
Hubby and I don't normally do much for Valentine's Day. We did earlier in our relationship but after 25 years of marriage a hug and a kiss is enough. We have our usual date night every week so I suppose you could say we celebrate our relationship more often than most.
The older I get the less I'm concerned about the material things.
Those are all nice and I totally understand that those are merely ways of expressing love.
However, I am more concerned for the inward.
What is the state of my heart?
What kind of person am I?
Am I kind?
Am I compassionate?
Am I loving?
How do I treat people on an everyday basis?
These are also ways of expressing love.
My behavior is a direct reflection of my heart. Out of a good heart comes forth good things. Out of an evil heart comes forth evil things. So...
What does my behavior say about my heart?
What does your behavior say about your heart?
Are we mean and hateful?
Are we petty and nasty?
So while we enjoy our box of chocolates today, let's also take a moment to check ourselves inwardly. A little bit of love can do a whole lot of good. People always want to make a difference in the world. Well I don't know if we can change the world but we can certainly make a difference in our own home, in our neighborhood, in our community, among our little circle of friends.
One small act of kindness can go a long way. I don't know about you but I'm so tired of all the ugliness on social media over recent political matters. Sometimes I think, when is it going to end? So someone has a different opinion than you. So what! Love them anyway. Be kind.
So on this Valentine's Day I challenge all of us to search our hearts. Let's do a little pruning and weeding. They say a smile is contagious. Can you only imagine what a happy heart can do?
Happy Valentine's Day my friends.
Let's make someone feel loved today, Shall we?
